Spring 2017
The Royale Food & Spirits

In this series, I joined journalist D.J. Wilson to conduct critical interviews with the major candidates for the Democratic Party nomination for Mayor of the City of St. Louis. The seat was vacated by Francis Slay, who was the city’s first four-term mayor. The “close up” interviews crafted an opportunity for substantive discussion of the issues, one candidate at a time, instead of oppositional debating. The close ups embodied a spirit of critical agonism, honoring the democratic potential of exposing distinct views among candidates carefully and individually. The location of the events in a tavern promoted the spirit of accessibility and direct democracy.
